DENMARK.GL explains the country Americans keep using as an argument.

We write about the Danish and Nordic models, taxes, health care, unions, culture, food, Greenland and everyday life. The audience is American. The subject is Denmark. The tone is evidence with a pulse.

Why this site exists

American debates about Denmark usually collapse into two fantasies. In one, Denmark is a socialist paradise where government solved sadness. In the other, Danes surrender their paychecks and freedom to a cold bureaucratic state.

Both versions are lazy. Denmark is a capitalist democracy with a large welfare state, strong unions, broad taxes and real problems. That reality is more useful—and more interesting—than either cartoon.

Who we write for

DENMARK.GL is for politically curious Americans, especially readers interested in health care, labor, inequality, gender, climate, cities, food and the practical meaning of a decent society.

You do not need to be a socialist, a Democrat, a woman or able to pronounce rødgrød med fløde. You do need to survive a website that thinks universal health care is good.

We have opinions

Neutrality is not the same as fairness. We will distinguish reporting, analysis and opinion. We will link to evidence, describe trade-offs and correct factual mistakes. We will not pretend every policy choice is morally identical to avoid upsetting the furniture.

Our editorial voice is direct, progressive and occasionally impolite to bad arguments. Facts do not become optional because the joke was good.

Our editorial rules

1. Answer the question. Do not hide it below 900 words of search-engine porridge.
2. Show the bill. Every benefit has a cost, a rule or a trade-off.
3. Use primary sources. Official statistics before somebody’s confident thread.
4. Separate fact and opinion. Both belong here. Readers should know which is which.
5. Write like a person. No corporate fog, empty uplift or polished AI oatmeal.
6. Correct mistakes visibly. Pride is not a substitute for accuracy.

Greenland is not Danish content

Greenland is a self-governing country within the Kingdom of Denmark. Its future belongs to Greenlanders. Our coverage will prioritize Greenlandic sources and voices, name colonial history and avoid treating the country as Danish scenery or an American purchase opportunity.

Money and independence

DENMARK.GL may earn money through advertising, memberships, affiliate links or a curated shop. Commercial relationships will be disclosed. Sponsors and sellers do not receive editorial approval, favorable coverage or the right to turn every article into a shopping aisle.

The shop will remain visibly separate from editorial judgment. If a link can earn commission, readers should not need detective training to discover it.

Corrections

Denmark changes. Numbers change. We will date factual guides and update them when necessary. If we get something wrong, we will correct it and explain material changes. A quiet edit is for a typo. A factual error gets daylight.
