Denmark Runs on Wind. The Grid Still Has to Do the Hard Part.

DENMARK BUILT A LOT OF WIND POWER. THAT IS NOT THE SAME AS DECLARING VICTORY AND GOING HOME.

Wind is central to Danish electricity, but wind arrives when it arrives. A serious green system needs cables, storage, flexible demand, neighbours to trade power with, and people willing to put turbines somewhere they can actually be built.

The real brag

Denmark did not wait for a perfect solution before starting. It built expertise, connected the grid across borders and kept adding renewable capacity. The Danish Energy Agency reports that renewables supplied 79.7% of Denmark’s electricity in 2024.

And yes, wind turbines can be annoying

They change landscapes. Neighbours should be heard and compensated fairly. Pretending there are no trade-offs is childish. Pretending fossil fuels have no trade-offs is worse.
