IN DENMARK, MOST VISITS TO A GENERAL PRACTITIONER ARE FREE AT THE POINT OF USE. YOU DO NOT BEGIN BY ASKING WHETHER A DOCTOR IS “IN NETWORK.”
That does not mean the health system has no queues, no shortages or no frustration. It means the front door is public. Citizens have access to general practitioners, hospitals and specialist care through a tax-funded system.
The difference is the question you do not have to ask
When you are sick, the first question should be “what is wrong?” Not “what will this cost?” Denmark has chosen to remove that immediate financial barrier. That choice has a price: taxes. It also has a value: basic care is not rationed by a credit limit.
